THE POSITION
Work as the lead electrical engineer on a wide variety of electronic systems and subsystems spanning both analog and digital circuitry as well as firmware/HDL designs.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
• Serve as the lead electrical engineer on an instrument/instrument subsystem throughout its development life cycles
• Design systems for operation in extreme environments, such as wide temperature swings and variable pressure environments
• Manage the design of instruments from schematic to layout, fabrication, test, and deployment
• Provide input and preliminary designs for federal grant proposals, including NASA
• Work closely with other departments (e.g. optical, software, mechanical, systems, science) in an iterative manner and aid in their work efforts, when necessary and/or applicable, from project conception to delivery
• The position will require involvement in a range of tasks over project lifecycles including requirements definition, relevant simulations and calculations, instrument assembly, and documenting and executing verification tests
• The position will require interaction and collaboration with external customers and contractors to scope, carry out, and support tasks. Travel may be required.
REQUIREMENTS
• US Person (Citizen or Permanent Resident)
• B.Sci or higher in related field
• 5+ years’ experience in an industry setting
• Experience designing and analyzing both analog and digital systems
• Experience with schematic capture and PCB layout tools (KiCAD, Altium, etc.)
• Experience working with electrical test equipment and debugging custom PCB’s
• Experience with a scientific programming language (Python, MATLAB, etc.)
• Experience with C/C++ and an understanding of basic firmware design principles
• Experience working with microcontrollers/FPGAs
• Ability to work in dynamic environments with novel concepts and a wide range of personnel
• Outstanding verbal and written skills and experience generating data-driven reports
• Experience working with Microsoft Office suite
