Job Description
The Controls System Engineer will generate and implement control system designs and complimentary Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) programming with a high standard of engineering expertise to fulfill commitments to customers.
This position will sit in our Cortland, NY office with frequent travel responsibilities to customer sites (domestic or global).
Essential Functions/Responsibilities
Continuously research market data and trends to leverage vendor offerings in apply the best available methods and materials when designing systems to continually improve SNIF® control systems. Develop and maintain a high level of engineering capabilities and familiarity with control system design techniques, PLC programming, components, and devices.
Develop accurate and precise designs and documentation of SNIF® control systems including standard and advanced systems for operation with computer interfaces.
Effectively design, prepare documentation for, test, and troubleshoot programs for Allen-Bradley PLCs, Siemens PLCs, and customer specified PLC systems as required.
Work in partnership with peers to continuously design and review the drafting of new and replacement parts, components, and assemblies in accordance with the replacement parts redesign procedures in effect.
Work collaboratively and effectively with purchasing and customer service departments using the materials management systems – VISUAL, to generate work orders and procure parts to supply manufacturing facilities and customers.
Work with panel vendors to ensure that control panels comply with their SNIF® control system design and are built according to professional construction and appropriate electrical specification standards.
Visit vendor plants as required to inspect and test SNIF® control systems to ensure all products meet SNIF® and customer requirements. Promptly prepare and file complete and actionable written inspection and test reports, escalating issues as appropriate.
Ensure finished products meet international electrical design standards and schematic diagrams specifications including Conformite Europeenne (CE), Underwriters Laboratories (UL), China Compulsory Certification (CCC), Canadian Standards Association (CSA), Deutsches Institut für Normung (DIN), and Verband der Elektrotechnik (VDE).
Conduct effective training sessions for Field Service Engineers in the proper set-up, operation, and troubleshooting of new control system designs.
As needed or directed, travel to customer sites to provide support throughout installation or for troubleshooting control system problems.
Accurately perform design reviews of all mechanical and electrical systems and components for inherent safety and compliance with applicable codes and safety policy. Verify appropriate safety precautions, labels and nameplates are in place in accordance with company procedures and policy. Quickly take steps to rectify or escalate any issues of non-compliance.
Actively participate in the Quality System CAR process including reporting control system nonconformances encountered during panel checkout, resolving of actual or potential control system nonconformances reported in the field, and resolving of other CAR tasks that may be assigned by management.
Ensure adherence to ISO requirements by supporting the quality system through maintenance of an active working knowledge of processes, setting an example by following requirements, and participating in continuous process improvements and internal audits.
Qualifications
Education/Experience Bachelor of Science in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering degree required; plus 3 years of experience in the design of industrial control equipment and associated PLC programming; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Familiarity with applicable electrical design codes, manufacturing methods and drafting practices is preferred.

Job Description
The Encore Boston Harbor Assistant Chief Engineer reports directly to the Director of Engineering. The primary responsibilities are to assist the Director of Engineering by providing a high level of oversight for all of our MEP systems including inspecting, evaluating, and monitoring all of equipment, designing and or upgrading our equipment, managing our preventative maintenance programs, overseeing our compliance requirements. It also includes the oversight of all energy used or produced. The Asst. Chief Engineer oversees the Mechanical, Electrical, Environmental needs of our five-star casino, resort, convention, and spa. Including the daily operations to meet company objectives for electrical, and mechanical equipment maintenance, project planning, and energy management by performing the following duties personally or through subordinates. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Oversee Mechanical and Electrical Systems associated with a LEEDS Platinum Certified five-star Casino, Hotel, Spa, Convention, and Restaurants.
Assist in managing a state-of-the-art Central Utility Plant “CUP” including but not limited to; emergency diesel generators, gas reciprocating co-generators, battery energy storage system, Carrier electric chillers, Broad hot water absorption chiller, solar production, A/B utility feed, domestic water, sewer, and storm systems.
Develops and oversees environmental programs.

Writes scope of work for electrical, mechanical design based on preliminary review.
Prepares engineering studies and schematic design for new systems and analyzes operation of existing systems.

Qualifications

Maintain, repair, and ensure the efficient operation of all building systems. Building systems include HVAC, water treatment, electrical, lighting, plumbing, energy management, fire protection, structural, hardware and keying.
Perform or supervise the installation, fabrication, construction, troubleshooting and repairing of complex mechanical and electrical equipment.
Review and coordinate work assignments, plan work to be performed and obtain necessary tools, equipment, and materials. Complete assignments and paperwork in a timely manner. Oversee the work of Engineers, Maintenance Technicians and Utility Workers.
Demonstrate a thorough knowledge of equipment being serviced and employ service procedures and techniques indicative of first class work. Follow inspection and service procedures outlined in the preventative maintenance and loss control programs.
Operate all equipment, power, and hand tools in a safe and efficient manner. Care for assigned equipment, tools, and uniforms.
Keep the shop, equipment rooms and common areas clean, organized, and safe.
Inspect all areas of the building(s) and report deficiencies as well as suggestions for improvement.
Monitor contractors, inspect work and generate deficiency lists.
Administer necessary inventory control programs to ensure adequate spare parts and material inventories
General
Available for various shifts and to occasionally work extended hours, nights, weekends and holidays to ensure adequate building coverage and perform necessary repairs.
Provide exemplary customer service to internal and external customers in a positive and timely manner.
Assist in instituting and administering policies and procedures established by Engineering Management.
Respond to after hours emergencies such as fire, flooding, severe weather (including snow and ice removal) power outage and other related situations including clean-up activities, if other contracted personnel are not available.
Region/Building Specific Functions:
Assist in the technical training and upgrading of skills of more junior personnel.
Pursue employee development objectives recommended by the Chief Engineer and/or Property Manager.
Assist in the administration of the properties’ impairment and loss prevention program.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements and Qualifications:
High School diploma or equivalent educational certification preferred.
Minimum of 5 years as a Building Engineer or equivalent field experience.
Lead Engineer
Comprehensive training and certification in HVAC or Operating Engineering Technologies and/or equivalent job related training and experience.
License(s) for applicable jurisdiction and equipment:
HVAC Masters license, preferred
SMT Certification or enrollment in a program, preferred
Universal CFC certification required.
Position requires expertise with centrifugal chillers and direct digital controls.
Continuing education in field with a minimum of one advanced training course successfully completed each year.
Excellent technical and problem solving abilities.
Valid driver’s license and satisfactory driving record required.
Ability to work independently.
Ability to coordinate work efficiently and optimize the performance of others.
Excellent computer skills necessary to operate and diagnose problems associated with Building Automation Systems.
Familiarity with OSHA, NEC, NFC, and Life Safety codes.
