Job Description
The Controls System Engineer will generate and implement control system designs and complimentary Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) programming with a high standard of engineering expertise to fulfill commitments to customers.
This position will sit in our Cortland, NY office with frequent travel responsibilities to customer sites (domestic or global).
Essential Functions/Responsibilities
Continuously research market data and trends to leverage vendor offerings in apply the best available methods and materials when designing systems to continually improve SNIF® control systems. Develop and maintain a high level of engineering capabilities and familiarity with control system design techniques, PLC programming, components, and devices.
Develop accurate and precise designs and documentation of SNIF® control systems including standard and advanced systems for operation with computer interfaces.
Effectively design, prepare documentation for, test, and troubleshoot programs for Allen-Bradley PLCs, Siemens PLCs, and customer specified PLC systems as required.
Work in partnership with peers to continuously design and review the drafting of new and replacement parts, components, and assemblies in accordance with the replacement parts redesign procedures in effect.
Work collaboratively and effectively with purchasing and customer service departments using the materials management systems – VISUAL, to generate work orders and procure parts to supply manufacturing facilities and customers.
Work with panel vendors to ensure that control panels comply with their SNIF® control system design and are built according to professional construction and appropriate electrical specification standards.
Visit vendor plants as required to inspect and test SNIF® control systems to ensure all products meet SNIF® and customer requirements. Promptly prepare and file complete and actionable written inspection and test reports, escalating issues as appropriate.
Ensure finished products meet international electrical design standards and schematic diagrams specifications including Conformite Europeenne (CE), Underwriters Laboratories (UL), China Compulsory Certification (CCC), Canadian Standards Association (CSA), Deutsches Institut für Normung (DIN), and Verband der Elektrotechnik (VDE).
Conduct effective training sessions for Field Service Engineers in the proper set-up, operation, and troubleshooting of new control system designs.
As needed or directed, travel to customer sites to provide support throughout installation or for troubleshooting control system problems.
Accurately perform design reviews of all mechanical and electrical systems and components for inherent safety and compliance with applicable codes and safety policy. Verify appropriate safety precautions, labels and nameplates are in place in accordance with company procedures and policy. Quickly take steps to rectify or escalate any issues of non-compliance.
Actively participate in the Quality System CAR process including reporting control system nonconformances encountered during panel checkout, resolving of actual or potential control system nonconformances reported in the field, and resolving of other CAR tasks that may be assigned by management.
Ensure adherence to ISO requirements by supporting the quality system through maintenance of an active working knowledge of processes, setting an example by following requirements, and participating in continuous process improvements and internal audits.
Qualifications
Education/Experience Bachelor of Science in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering degree required; plus 3 years of experience in the design of industrial control equipment and associated PLC programming; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Familiarity with applicable electrical design codes, manufacturing methods and drafting practices is preferred.

Travel. Ability to travel by land and air up to 40% both domestically and globally. Valid driver’s license and US Passport, or ability to obtain required.

The minimum and maximum salary range for this full-time position is $90,000 - $130,000 + benefits. Relocation benefits may be available, if deemed applicable based on candidate location.

Position Summary:
ITW Residential & Renovation division is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer to support the Pocahontas, AR facility (relocation available) to provide technical leadership, direction and engineering support for the safe manufacturing of high-volume nails, which meet or exceed quality requirements and business goals and objectives. Manages directly or indirectly 5 to 12 hourly maintenance workers, who install, maintain, and repair production and ancillary machines, equipment and systems within the plant. Serves as a member of and provides support to ad-hoc project teams, and other cross-functional teams on manufacturing projects. The Manufacturing Engineer Is responsible for continuous improvement in Safety, Quality, Productivity and Cost.
Primary Responsibilities:
Responsible for collecting and reviewing production data from production cells to ensure implemented process improvements are sustained.
Research, develop, and implement measurable process improvements and cost reduction strategies within specified time frames.
Identify and support production quality processes and procedures to increase production throughput and eliminate impact to the customer
Participate, lead and facilitate kaizen events to improve internal LEAN manufacturing processes to increase production's efficiency and quality
Train production operators on lean principles and manufacturing processes to increase production's efficiency and quality
Work with Cross-Functional teams in the planning and designing of new products to ensure new products are designed for manufacturability
Research and review industry trends and technological advancements for products and processes.
Ensure that the facility operates within all applicable legal, safety, and environmental requirements.
Develop, document and maintain process plans and machine operating instructions.
Maintain building and grounds.

The Electrical Controls Designer will perform the design of electrical controls systems from a process flow diagram as specified by the Electrical Controls Engineer; including process control and heating in various thermal system applications in the metal furnace, sintering and metal treatment industries using AutoCAD Electrical. Analytical Skills. Ability to use information/data and various metrics to develop an informed and factual business case. Strong financial analytical capabilities for developing profitable product strategies. Ability to define problems, collect objective data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
Core Business Skills. Ability to exercise sound judgement and discretion in handling of proprietary and confidential information. Ability to identify and solve practical problems while dealing with complexity and ambiguity. Job Description
The Electrical Controls Designer will perform the design of electrical controls systems from a process flow diagram as specified by the Electrical Controls Engineer; including process control and heating in various thermal system applications in the metal furnace, sintering and metal treatment industries using AutoCAD Electrical. Perform programming for Human Machine Interfaces and Programable Logic Controls.
This position can be remote with the ability to be in office for meetings and project kick off collaboration periods.
Essential Functions/Responsibilities
Utilize AutoCAD Electrical tools and other applicable hardware and software to effectively and efficiently design electrical controls. Ensure adherence to established department standard practices.
Utilize Studio 5000 and FactoryTalk View to properly program AB PLC’s and HMI’s.
As needed, travel to customer locations to courteously and effectively support installation, updates, and troubleshooting of PLC & HMI programming.
Consult and collaborate effectively with engineers to discuss and interpret design concepts and determine requirements of detailed working drawings.
Correctly calculate and apply the Short Circuit Current Rating (SCCR) of Control Panels.
Based upon control panel designs, generate accurate bill of materials for design for review by the Controls Engineer.
Determine appropriate electrical test points to verify proper system operation; troubleshooting or making adjustments as necessary. Ensuring a high level of communication regarding any changes made.
Serve as subject matter in regard to control panels, including providing assistance to electricians in trouble shooting control panels and controls systems.
